Established in 2000, CHETANA is dedicated to fostering sustainable development in both rural and urban communities of Nepal. It works to envision, implement, and support community-driven initiatives. The organization prioritizes areas such as democracy, governance, child and women’s rights, human and Dalit rights, peacebuilding, disaster management, sustainable livelihoods, and environmental conservation.
CHETANA was initiated by a group of well-qualified and experienced professionals with extensive expertise in natural resource management and integrated community development. The organization conducts socio-economic and environmental activities, research, and advocacy campaigns to address community constraints and meet their needs and aspirations. CHETANA emphasizes participatory processes, engaging its team members, volunteers, and specialists in developing strategic development plans.
"A prosperous, equitable, and harmonious society where children, women, individuals with disabilities, and disadvantaged groups advance systematically, overcoming challenges today and tomorrow."
"To implement integrated actions and systematic approaches that create an enabling environment for capacity building among development actors, children, women, and marginalized groups, empowering them socially, economically, politically, culturally, and environmentally."
CHETANA aims to empower poor, historically marginalized communities and underprivileged societies—particularly in poverty-stricken, disaster-affected, and conflict-hit areas—by alleviating poverty and mitigating disaster-induced physical threats. This will be achieved through integrated community development interventions, humanitarian assistance, capacity building, policy research, and development. The organization mobilizes local resources, fosters partnerships, and strengthens local capacities to achieve these goals.
